You can count on Karmak
Built in a parts department and shaped by four decades of hands-on industry experience, Karmak helps commercial transportation businesses run stronger, smarter, and more profitably.

Karmak’s story begins at the heart of the heavy-duty industry, inside a parts department in Carlinville, Illinois.
In the late 1940s, the Schien family built a business rooted in hard work and reliability—starting as a welding shop, growing into dump body manufacturing, and eventually becoming a heavy-duty truck parts supplier. By the 1970s, the operation had expanded into a full-scale parts distributor, with Richard Schien running the parts department, where he encountered a familiar frustration: there was no software built to manage inventory the way parts departments actually work. So he built one.
Working alongside Alan Weller, Richard developed a system designed for real-world accuracy and efficiency—not for an exit, but to solve a problem. That system became Legend, and as word spread, what began as an internal solution evolved into a software company officially incorporated as Karmak in 1981. While the technology has evolved, the philosophy hasn’t: treat people “fair and a little bit more.” It’s the foundation of our Heavy Duty DNA and why working with Karmak means partnering with people who’ve lived your business, not just invested in it.
To keep the commercial transportation industry moving forward.
